The Royal Conservatory of Music (founded in 1886) is one of the world's largest institutions for musical education. It produces the most popular and comprehensive teaching method in Canada. Its examination system from Introductory Level through to the A.R.C.T. Diploma, serves as a foundation for countless private studio teachers.

Conservatory Canada, a merging of two founding institutions dating back to 1891 also offers a regular examination system along with oral questions, supplementary pieces, mini-lessons, recital assessments and teacher development assessments. It also grants accredited Diplomas.

The Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College of Music, both centered in the U.K. offer music examinations to external candidates in over 30 different instruments/subjects.

These are the only examination systems for which High School credits are given. Students should consult with school guidance for more details.

Achievement in the Certificate Programs is also considered an important entrance requirement for professional music programs at many universities.
