3-4 year-olds benefit from a more general music education geared to young children which includes rhythm, pitch-discrimination and singing all done in small groups with parent involvement.

Age 6-8 seems just right for most beginners, on average, when their reading in school has begun to get a foothold. The ability to focus and to display fine motor skills are also good indicators. Vocal teachers generally will not begin any student until at least age 8.

It is possible and proven good for the brain to begin music lessons at any age.
